April 9, 2008 (Portland, OR) - Bio·Reaction Industries just announced that it has signed an agreement with Norbord Inc. of Toronto, Canada (TSX: NBD), an international producer of wood-based panel products, to build Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) compliant press control bio-oxidation systems for Norbord's Mississippi and Minnesota Oriented Strand Board (OSB) operations.
As energy costs fluctuate, the wood products industry is faced with further challenges to increase operational efficiencies. "Bio·Reaction Industries recognizes that there are growing challenges in the wood products and other regulated industries. We strongly believe that our next generation bio-oxidation systems can address many of their needs", said Karl Mundorff, president and CEO of Bio·Reaction Industries. "Our systems not only meet MACT requirements but also provide design flexibility so increased Total Hydrocarbon removal can be achieved with minor upgrades to the system. What this means is that our customers stay in compliance today, save significant energy costs compared to thermal oxidation and can remain compliant in the future as control limits become more stringent. Our customers are asking for abatement equipment that requires little energy use, needs little mechanical maintenance and does not generate significant greenhouse gases", he continued.
Jim Black, Norbord's Vice President of Southern Operations, stated "We believe Bio·Reaction's bio-oxidation system provides the most efficient abatement technology for our press emissions at these two locations. The bio-oxidation system helps us limit natural gas usage and contain our environmental costs."
In addition to serving the wood products industry, BRI has projects underway for manufacturers in the Paint and Coatings and Chemical Processes markets.
Bio·Reaction Industries, LLC pioneered a new generation of environmentally friendly air pollution control systems that utilize microbes to digest industrial pollutants and odors. Based in Tualatin, Oregon, BRI's advanced bio-oxidation systems cost dramatically less than thermal oxidizers to operate, do not produce additional greenhouse gases (such as CO2, Nitrogen Oxide, and Sulfur Oxides), and deliver the highest removal efficiency of any air phase bio technology in the world.
